As parents of a child who is hard-of-hearing, we feel incredibly fortunate to have found Deborah as our sign language tutor. She is a gifted teacher who has the ability to conduct sessions that are educational, challenging, fulfilling and enjoyable - all at the same time! We leave every session looking forward to the next and inspired to learn more. Dave and Marni Sugden, Newport Beach
Deborah is an excellent teacher!!! She makes learning fun and is very creative in planning her curriculum. She has the heart and know-how to accomplish teaching even the most difficult student. As one of her former students, I had a hard time remembering some of the signs, but she found interesting ways to help me make connections. I highly recommend her to anyone who is as passionate to learn as she is to teach. Dee Muzic, Fountain Valley
Deborah was a wonderful teacher who helped me learn a foreign language, even though it was a hard task to accomplish. Being tutored by her helped not only improve my grade immensely, but also allowed me to have a true hope of learning foreign languages regardless whether it was ASL or another language entirely. I have known Deborah O’Hara for 3 years. She has taught both my 5 year old son and 7 year old daughter for the past year. She incorporates a variety of engaging activities into her lessons and my children anticipate her class every week. Our confidence level with signing has increased significantly. Thanks to Deborah, the possibilities are endless. She is delightful and skilled with children and adults, and I would recommend her services to anyone. Heidi Afusia, Parent/Educator, Santa Ana
I have known Debbie both as an interpreter and sign language teacher for a number of years. She is quite clever and innovative in how she sets up her lessons and teaches the material. She has a knack for coming up with fun games and activities that incorporate the vocabulary she is teaching. Michael Morefield, Interpreter, Orange County
Debbie O’Hara was my sign language teacher for over a year, and the methods she used to teach elementary school teachers (ASL and CASE) were extremely effective. She is proficiently bilingual, and uses very effective multiple modality strategies to reinforce learning. She also supports the learning of sign language as a second language by sharing a wealth of information about Deaf culture and origins. This further enhances learning to make the language more meaningful. We were very motivated to take what we had learned and share with our students! Debbie also directly taught my first grade students sign language during this same time, and their learning was very impressive and long-term. Now, in fourth grade, these students still remember every sign they learned in first grade. Their strong signing background has encouraged and inspired them to continue to learn and use new signs with enthusiasm.
